This species is extremely rare and very little is known about it being described only in 2006. It inhabits dense canopy forests of the hilly areas (elevating from 1,850m to 2,450m) of Arunachal Pradesh in India. It is also found in Bhutan and China (BirdLife International 2018).

This species is listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).


According to the IUCN Red List Assessment, the population of this species is declining, with the current population size ranging between 50 and 249 individuals. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to large scale human encroachments like road-building and wildfires. Currently, the population of this species is little known (BirdLife International 2018).
