This uncommon species is found only in India and Bangladesh. It is also known as the Marsh Spotted Babbler. It inhabits grasslands and shrublands of Brahmaputra floodplains, up to 800m asl. It breeds during Monsoon (mostly after May). It is found in pairs or small groups (BirdLife International 2016).

This species is listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/)
According to the IUCN Red List Assessment, the population of this species is declining, with the current population estimate of 10,000-19,000 individuals. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to large-scale agriculture and other human encroachments. Another major threat is heavy flooding caused by the flow of the Brahmaputra river (BirdLife International 2016).
