Tragopan blythii - Blyth's Tragopan



This species is rare in India. It inhabits subtropical and temperate forests in North-east India (mainly in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland), Bhutan, Myanmar, and China, at the heights of 1,800m-3,300m asl. It is an altitudinal migrant, it inhabits up to the heights of 1,400m during winter and 3,300m during summer (BirdLife International 2017).
 
Conservation Status:
 
 

This species is listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/). According to the IUCN Red List Assessment, the population of this species is declining, with the current population size estimated at 2,500-9,999 individuals. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to deforestation. Another major threat to this species is hunting for meat and feather (mainly in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland) (BirdLife International 2017).
