Porphyrio porphyrio

This chicken sized bird has a dazzling plumage of green blue and purple. When it walks it flicks its tail up and down showing the white under tail. The bill is red and extends to a shield on the forehead. The call is loud penetrating kee ow. It is an excellent swimmer but prefers to wander on the edges of water.
