This species is uncommon. It inhabits grasslands and thickets on hills of Myanmar and India(mainly in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Assam) (at 915m) (BirdLife International 2016).

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is stable, and its current population size is unknown. The threat to its persistence is little understood, possibly habitat disturbance is a threat due to grazing and agriculture (BirdLife International 2016).
