This species is uncommon. It inhabits wet grasslands and marshes. It is migratory, breeding in Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, and Mongolia during April-July solitarily and wintering in Estonia, Finland, Germany, Algeria, Egypt, India, China, Japan and Republic of Korea in large groups (BirdLife International 2017).
